TULIP VASE

Tulip Vase is a dialogue between tradition and technology, shaped by both the hand and the algorithm. This handcrafted porcelain vase was created using AI as a tool for exploration, allowing it to suggest new forms- an unexpected collaboration where digital interpretation met the tactile nature of clay. The final design emerged not as a replacement for craft, but as a companion to it, bridging intuition and computation in a shared creative process.
This piece reflects on how our tools shape the way we create and, in turn, how we define craftsmanship itself. AI introduced possibilities beyond my own making, yet the essence of the vase remains deeply human. As I embrace the result, I also question our shifting habits, rituals, and methods of production. It is an experiment in balancing new tools with traditional making, embracing both the familiar and the unknown.

PELIN ALKAN
My journey with ceramics started back home in Turkey, where I discovered ancient pottery techniques during my travels to archaeological sites as well as the studios of master potters across the country. Since 2020, I have been actively involved in ceramics, exploring the incorporation of AI and digital production techniques into my creative process. Drawing from my background as a designer, I have been able to reinterpret this traditional craft with a curiosity to explore new methods and techniques made possible by digital tools.
